Japan: Fire Engulfs Shopping Arcade Near Ise Grand Shrine, Hundreds Evacuated

A large fire broke out on Monday afternoon, August 31, at the Meirin shopping arcade in Ise, Mie Prefecture, located about 600 meters east of the Ise Grand Shrine's outer shrine, Geku, spreading to multiple buildings in the roughly 20-store district near Ujiyamada Station, though no injuries have been reported. Local authorities issued evacuation orders for 528 residents in 249 households, and about 280 homes lost power.
